Airplants are one of the most versatile species of plants known to man. Frequently used as décor for the interior of the home, one of the most common types is tillandsia airplants.

Tillandsia airplants are known in the scientific and horticultural world as epiphytes. They fall under this category because they require little to no soil to thrive and live. Instead of absorbing nutrients and water through their roots, they do it through their leafs, making them one of the most unique plants on the globe. While they do possess roots, these are used only as anchors.

Primarily grown in South America and in the southern portion of North America, Tillandsia airplants attach themselves to other plants to grow and nourish themselves. This means that they require absolutely no soil to grow to maturity. A few of these plants will blossoms into beautiful flowers, but for the most part, they offer attractive greenery in a unique package.

There are two distinct types of tillandsias—the thin leafed variety and the thick leafed variety. The thin leafed plants thrive in rainy climates while the thicker leafed plants blossom in dry or drought stricken areas.

As beautiful as they are unique, these delicate plants make the perfect addition to any home.
